As part of our work to involve parents in their child’s reading, we asked several parents if they used the library. It became apparent that very few of the parents were members of the library, so we recently organised visits to the local library for our Foundation Stage children and parents, with the aim of joining and then continuing to use the library regularly.
These visits took place on 22nd March 2017 (Nursery) and 29th March 2017 (Reception). We took 47 children and their parents over the two visits. The children were read a story and the parents were given information on the library services and how to borrow books. The children then spent time browsing the shelves and sharing books with their parents. During the visit, 45 out of the 47 became members (two were already members), they got a library card and left with a book. We plan to roll this out to the rest of the school.
